hard edge

In her art, Jana Babincová deals especially with abstract geometric forms. Behind her seemingly decorative and highly aesthetic paintings arises a whole new dimension. This can be an encoded text, a memory or a hidden story, which is transformed into original means of abstraction. The unifying aspect of the exhibition lies in memories from childhood, often being related to concrete places within the hometown of the artist. The reference to reality is not apparent at the first sight; it is, however, crucial for the author. The exhibition is called Hard Edge, referring to a style of painting distinguished by the absence of emotions and sharp edges between the colour planes. The paintings by Jana Babincová follow this style only formally. The obsession with distinctive lines and planes of colours are the result of constant search and discovery of the different ways in which the sensual, the intimate and the internal can be transferred onto the surface of the painting.
